FINAL FOUR --- W.A.B.
SEASON ENDS IN STATE SEMIFINALS...
Eagles Unable to Overcome Lancaster's Size and Shooting In San Antonio
Andress fans from all over gathered in San Antonio on Thursday, March 12 to witness history as the #5 ranked Eagles made their first ever appearance in the state final four at the Alamodome. With hundreds of Eagle supporters from all corners of the state wearing maroon and gold in attendance, your Andress Eagles took to the court to take on the state's #1 ranked Lancaster Tigers.
From the opening tap, your Eagles passion and effort was apparent. While the Eagles showed they were not afraid of the moment, it was the Tigers that found the basket on their first possession to take an early lead. Unfortunately for the Eagles, it was a lead they would never relinquish. The Tigers raced out to 20-8 first quarter lead, but the Eagles showed resolve holding Lancaster scoreless for the first four minutes of the second quarter. During that time, Andress was able to cut the lead down to six. However, an opportunistic Tiger defense was able to create two turnovers and push the lead back to ten. After more back and forth play between the two top five teams, Andress went into halftime down 32-23. The Eagles would need a strong start to the third quarter to make victory achievable, but it was the Tigers that came out on fire hitting shots from all areas pushing their nine point lead to 16 before two minutes had passed in the third quarter. Never relenting, the Eagles continued to display tremendous effort, but Lancaster's size wore down the Eagles. And as the Lancaster guards continued to make shots, it became apparent the it would not be the Eagles night.
While the final score read 69-48 in favor of Lancaster, the Eagles had made the Eagle faithful in attendance, and watching the game online, very proud. With class and grace, the Eagles went into the stands to thank all the fans in attendance after accepting their third place medals to the cheers of the Eagle faithful in attendance.
Thank you to everyone that made this run to the state tournament a memorable experience, and for the opportunity to represent the Andress High School community at the highest level. While the season didn't end with a state championship, the pride and support shown by so many current and past Eagles showed that the saying "once an Eagle, always an Eagle" is alive and well.

Eagles Dominate Crowley in Sweet Sixteen
Fall to Amarillo High in Regional Final
The Texas Class 4A #1 ranked Andress Eagles (31-3) entered the regional tournament in Snyder, TX as the favorite to advance to the final four and represent west Texas in Austin. As the Eagles began their regional tournament in the sweet sixteen against upset minded Crowley High, nervous jitters seemed to cause some apprehensive play. Despite the very slow start offensively, the ever present Andress defense was very strong and the Eagles only trailed 9-4 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw the jitters wear off as the Eagles settled into the game offensively while continuing to play suffocating defense. Senior guard Jeffrey Long kept the Eagles offense alive with relentless penetration to the basket earning multiple trips free throw line (game high 17 points, 12-17 FT). A long three point field goal by junior guard Aaron Scallion along with two baseline jumpers from junior wing Debodric White and senior forward Isaiah Hemmitt gave Andress a 19-14 lead going into the half. The third quarter looked very much like the second. Maintaining their defensive pressure and attacking style offensively, the Eagles started to crack the Crowley defense earning more trips to the free throw line early in the quarter. When the Crowley defense adjusted, Andress made them pay from the outside with two three point field goals from junior guard Zaccheus Jackson. And when junior guard Alvin Warren hit a three to end the third quarter, Andress had established its first double digit lead of the game and never looked back. The Eagles outscored Crowley 24-14 in the fourth quarter and rolled to a 58-36 victory. In another year of firsts, it was the first sweet sixteen win in school history.
However, there was no celebration on the sideline after the victory. As the final horn sounded, with ice bags on knees and shoulders, the Eagles were already focused on the next challenge, and what could be...
In the regional final, the Eagles took on a very experienced #14 Amarillo Sandies team that had tasted defeat at the regional tournament one year ago. As the game started, there were no early game jitters from the Eagles. It was obvious that the game was going to be very physical as Andress would have to deal with Amarillo's considerable size advantage around the basket. However, senior wing and team captain Joey Pacheco showed a mixture of toughness and skill as he delivered 12 of the Eagles 25 first half points as the Eagles entered the half leading 25-17. Unfortunately, the Eagles entered the locker room with major foul trouble plaguing seven players. In the third quarter, the Eagles continued to stifle the Sandies defensively lead by the spirited effort of senior wing Eddie Sinegal, but Amarillo's size started to play a major role in the rebounding department giving them second chance opportunities that they capitalized on. Even with the rebounding margin starting to tip into Amarillo's favor and the personal fouls mounting up, the Eagles still lead 36-33 entering the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Eagles continue to struggle offensively and unable to keep Amarillo off of the offensive glass. The Eagles had no answer for the Sandies size as seniors Jeffrey Long, Eddie Sinegal and Joey Pacheco all fouled out. The Eagles could not find a way to make a timely basket (4-22 FG in second half) and could do nothing but watch as Amarillo put away the game at the free throw line handing the Eagles a bitter 54-44 loss.
A tremendous season and a tremendous group of young men gave their all, but came up short of their goal of a state championship. After the game, seniors Jeffrey Long and Eddie Sinegal were named to the all-regional tournament team and senior captain Joey Pacheco collected the regional runner-up trophy for the Eagles. Our most sincere thanks goes out to all of our supporters that made the trip to Snyder, those that watched online, and all of those that couldn't make the trip but were with us in spirit the entire season. Representing the Andress community and the Northside was our pleasure during this history making season. We hope to see you again next season as the Eagles return 3 starters and 10 letterman that will be looking to keep Andress on the basketball map in Texas.

HOW SWEET IT IS...
Eagles Weather First Half Foul Trouble, Pull Away From Palo Duro
Second Sweet 16 Appearance in School History
The Texas Class 4A #1 ranked Andress Eagles (30-2) showed some tenacity, heart, and poise in their regional quarterfinal game against Amarillo Palo Duro on Tuesday, February 25th at Odessa College.
The Eagles surged ahead early as senior guard Jeffrey Long lead the way with seven first quarter points, and held a 17-7 lead after the first quarter. However, the second quarter would prove to be a very different story. With four players collecting two fouls, two others carrying three, and Palo Duro in the bonus for the entirety of the quarter, the Dons were cutting into the Eagles' 10 point lead. Junior guard Brian Hunter stepped up with 7 points in the quarter as the Eagles went deep into their bench and held their ground making their way to the locker room still holding a three point lead. During the third quarter, neither team could establish itself offensively as both teams dug in on defense. Senior captain Joey Pacheco anchored the Andress defense with tremendous rebounding and quick outlets that kept Palo Duro's offense at bay. With a little over two minutes remaining in the third, Andress' relentless energy on the defensive end finally paid off as senior wing Eddie Sinegal, and junior guards Alvin Warren and Aaron Scallion helped led the team to multiple defensive stops as the Eagles raced out on an 8-0 run to end the third giving the Eagles a 42-32 lead heading into the final frame. In that final frame, it was a scoring frenzy! Every Palo Duro run was answered with a run by the Eagles with both teams attacking with every change of possession. As the game neared its end, the Eagles showed poise against Palo Duro's pressure and finished the game in full control by converting easy opportunities when they presented themselves and making free throws. And with a final exclamation point slam dunk from junior wing Rashad Still, the Eagles had secured a spot in the Sweet 16 with their 71-58 victory. Andress was led in scoring by senior wing Eddie Sinegal with 23 points (21 in second half) while senior guard Jeffrey Long added 17 points.
Next up for Andress is a date in the Regional Tournament with the Crowley Eagles on Friday, February 28th at 6pm CST in Snyder, TX on the Western Texas College campus. The program would like to thank all of the family, friends, alumni, and fans that have made their way to our first two out of town games during the playoffs. For those of you that haven't been able to travel, we can feel your positive vibes and appreciate the all of the well wishes. Your continued support is greatly appreciated and we hope to see you in "The Coliseum" on Friday night.

Eagles Defeat San Elizario for Bi-District Win
Complete Performance Leaves Lubbock High Stunned in Area Round
The Texas Class 4A #1 Ranked Andress Golden Eagles (29-2) showed why they are a force to be reckoned with in the 2014 UIL state playoffs after two dominating victories in the bi-district and area rounds over the San Elizario Eagles and the Lubbock High Westerners.
On Monday, February 17th, Andress played host to the San Elizario Eagles in front of a standing room only crowd at "The Nest." After shaking off the excitement of their final home game of the season, Andress settled in on defense and led 13-8 after the first quarter. The second quarter would see the home team continue its stingy defensive effort while manufacturing buckets and trying to find the mark from the three point arc. When junior guard Delino Lewis ended the Golden Eagles' outside shooting drought with a three point make just before the end of the first half, Andress had built a 31-16 halftime lead. The third quarter saw the home team give the capacity crowd exactly what they had come for; a show! With numerous deflections, steals, forced turnovers, beautiful fast breaks, and three balls raining from all areas of the court, Andress exploded for 32 points and ended the third quarter with a 63-24 lead. As the final horn sounded on Andress' 78-36 victory, the Eagles had announced their presence in the playoffs with authority. The Golden Eagles were lead by senior guard Jeffrey Long's 21 point, 11 rebound, and seven assist performance.
On Friday, February 21st, the Eagles traveled to Odessa, TX to take on the district 4-4A runners up, The Lubbock High Westerners. With over 100 loyal fans traveling from El Paso, and many more local alumni, family, and friends in attendance, the Eagles looked ready to explode from the opening tip, and explode they did! The Eagles started the game on a quick 8-2 run and ended the first quarter leading 21-10. In the second quarter, the Eagles continued to turn defense into offense taking the Westerners completely out of their offensive sets with constant ball pressure and tremendous help defense. If the Eagles weren't converting on the offensive end with spectacular ball movement and consistent finishes on the fast break, they were putting on an offensive rebounding clinic leading to multiple opportunities to score, and built a 46-27 halftime lead. After playing basket for basket with the Westerners for the first 5 minutes of the third quarter, the Eagles slammed the door on the Westerners ending the quarter on a 12-0 run, and lead 71-40 going into the fourth quarter. Andress maintained its composure in the fourth, cleared the bench, and salted away their 90-59 area round domination of Lubbock High. The win was a complete team effort with many players contributing to the victory as senior guard Jeffrey Long led the way with 23 points and 8 rebounds, while senior captain Joey Pacheco and junior guard Brian Hunter poured in 14 points each.
On Tuesday, February 25th, the Eagles look to continue their run to Austin as they take on the Amarillo Palo Duro Dons in a Regional Quarterfinal game at 6pm on the Odessa Junior College campus. We can't thank everyone enough for the support we have received to this point and hope you continue to support these young men as they represent the northside, and
El Paso, in the state playoffs. We look forward to seeing everyone again on Tuesday night in Odessa.

SENIOR NIGHT CELEBRATION...
Eagles defeat Jefferson on way to Perfect District Campaign
Junior Varsity and Freshman Teams Claim District Titles
In front of a very spirited crowd on Senior Night, the #1 ranked Andress Eagles (27-2 Overall, 14-0 in District) showcased the talents of six very special seniors during their 102-37 victory over the Jefferson Silver Foxes. Senior captain Joey Pacheco led his fellow seniors Jeffrey Long, Eddie Sinegal, Isaiah Hemmitt, Jared Douglass, and Kylonte' Bizzell onto the court with their jerseys turned backwards, but their sights set on enjoying their teammates. With the six seniors rotating on and off the floor for the duration of the first quarter, the seniors built a 24-8 lead. The juniors took over in the second quarter and staked the team to a 48-15 halftime lead. By the end of the third quarter, the seniors had pushed the lead out to 75-31. The only question left to be answered was would they make it to 100. The juniors played with great energy at the beginning of the fourth quarter and handed the night back over to the seniors with two and a half minutes remaining on the clock, and 9 points to be scored if they wished to reach 100. Senior guard Jeffrey Long collected an offensive rebounded and was fouled on the put-back attempt with less than a minute remaining. When his first free throw fell in, the Eagles had broken 100 points for the first time all season.
The coaching staff would like to thank our seniors for all of their hard work over the last four years. They have helped establish Andress Boys' Basketball as the premier high school basketball program in El Paso, and are shining examples of what a student athlete should aspire to become; leaders on the court, in the classroom, and in their communities.
Joey, Jeff, Eddie, Isaiah, Jared, and Kee, you will be missed but your legacy will live on. Once and Eagle, Always an Eagle!
In other action on the evening, the Junior Varsity and Freshman were impressive in their double-digit victories over Jefferson. The Junior Varsity finished their 2013-2014 season as District Champions for the fourth consecutive season with a record of 20-4 overall, and 13-1 in district play. The Freshman finished their season as District Champions for the third consecutive season with a record of 16-4 overall, and 13-1 in district play. Congratulations to both teams.
Next up for the Eagles is the reason for all of the hard work, the State Playoffs!!! The Eagles are three weeks and seven games away from achieving their goal of a Texas State Championship. In the first game on that quest, the Andress Eagles will host the San Elizario Eagles on Monday, February 17th, at 7pm at "The Nest." We hope to see everyone there.

STILL ROLLING...
#1 Ranked Eagles Still Perfect In District Play
Andress/Barron Mentor Program Brings Little Pioneers Into Spotlight
Having already clinched the 2013-2014 1-4A District Championship, the Texas Class 4A #1 ranked Andress Eagles (26-2 Overall, 13-0 in District) looked to fine tune their skills in preparation for the playoffs with games this past week at the
Irvin Rockets and home to the Burges Mustangs.
On Tuesday, February 4th, the Eagles entered a very hostile Irvin Rocket gymnasium prepared to face another team playing for their playoff lives. Irvin came out fighting but was little match for the Eagles' ability to get up and down the floor as Andress lead 46-28 at the half. A 27-14 third quarter surge was more than enough as the Eagles cruised in the fourth to a convincing 91-57 victory. The Eagles were lead in scoring by senior Jeffrey Long's 19 points. Junior guard Zaccheus Jackson added 18 points while junior guard Brian Hunter chipped in 16 points on the evening. Junior guard Alvin Warren did a little bit of everything contributing 12 points, eight rebounds, five deflections, a blocked shot, and his usual trademark defense.
Then on Friday, February 7th, the Eagles looked to vanquish last year's district champions, the second place Burges Mustangs, in front of a packed "Nest." From the opening tip, it was obvious the the Mustangs were attempting to limit the number of possessions and keep the game close. But, the Eagles turned up their pressure and did not allow Burges to hold the ball forcing turnovers and quick shots that lead to quality scoring opportunities on the offensive end, and a 29-7 halftime lead. In the second half, when the Burges zone defense was set, the Eagles showed tremendous patience, executed its offense, and presented a balanced attack that could not be stopped. Andress pounded the glass with 14 offensive rebounds and when the final horn sounded, the Eagles celebrated a 67-26 demolishing of the Mustangs. Players of note on a very balanced night for the Eagles were senior guard Jeffrey Long (12 points, five rebounds, five assists), junior wing Debodric White (12 points), and junior wing Rashad Still (seven points, seven rebounds, three blocks).
The Andress Boys' Basketball Program is currently serving as mentors to students at Barron Elementary. Every Wednesday, our players travel to Barron and visit classrooms with little Pioneers and help with work, read, and provide a positive influence and example to the class. During the pregame introductions, each starter escorted a little Pioneer to center court, and during halftime all of the little Pioneers and Varsity players posed for pictures. It was a great experience for our players and the looks on the faces of the little Pioneers were priceless. A great big thank you goes out to the administration at Barron Elementary for the opportunity to mentor their students. We hope to continue this mentornship with the little Pioneers at Barron Elementary and other schools in our community. Giving back is a focus of the Andress Boys Basketball Program, and we will continue to positively serve our community in any way we can.
In other action from last week, the Junior Varsity and Freshman teams both went 2-0 for the week with double digit wins over Irvin and Burges. The Junior Varsity is now 19-4 overall and 12-1 in district and has clinched their 4th Consecutive District Championship!!! The Freshmen are 15-4 overall and are tied for first place in district at 12-1 with one game to play.
Next up for the Eagles is SENIOR NIGHT at "The Nest" as the program hosts the Jefferson Silver Foxes on Tuesday, February 11th. The Freshman look to clinch their share of a district championship at 4:30pm, the Junior Varsity looks to close out their 4th consecutive district championship in style at 6:00pm, and the Varsity will honor our six graduating seniors as they look to close out a perfect 2013-2014 district campaign at 7:30pm.

DISTRICT CHAMPIONS...
#1 Eagles Defeat District Opponents To Clinch District Title
With a district championship in their sights, the Texas Class 4A #1 Andress Eagles (24-2 Overall, 11-0 in District 1-4A) left little doubt who would claim this year's 1-4A crown with two blow out victories over playoff contenders Austin and El Paso High.
On Tuesday, January 27th, following a dominant 44-26 first half performance, the Eagles put the defensive clamps on the Austin Panthers giving up only eight second half points in their 70-34 victory. Senior guard Jeffrey Long led the team in scoring with a game high 15 points while senior captain Joey Pacheco added 10 points.
Then on Friday, January 31st, the defensive intensity was turned on from the very beginning of the contest. Junior guard Alvin Warren's relentless on ball defensive pressure ignited a swarm from the rest of his teammates leaving the El Paso High Tigers baffled as they left "The Nest" on the wrong side of a 64-20 demolishing. Senior wing Eddie Sinegal filled the stat sheet with a team high 10 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and six deflections. His energy, defensive instincts, play making ability, and four years of varsity experience give teams yet another player to deal with, and is another reason why we are a contender for a state championship.
In perhaps the most important news of the week, the El Paso High game marked the first time all season in which the Eagles were at full strength! The Eagles celebrated the return of junior guard Aaron Scallion after missing 36 games since the middle of last season due to two separate injuries. In the third quarter, Aaron rose from the bench to a rousing ovation.
He did not disappoint the supporting crowd as he looked like his old self pouring in seven points in three minutes of play.
Great to Have You Back A-Scall...
In other action, the Junior Varsity (17-4 Overall, 10-1 in District) and Freshman (13-4 Overall, 10-1 in District) teams both went 2-0 over the week with double digit wins over Austin and El Paso High.
In the district standings, the Junior Varsity is alone in 1st place while the Freshman are tied for 1st.
This coming week sees the Eagles travel to Irvin High School on Tuesday, February 4th, to take on the Rockets. The Junior Varsity will get things started at 5:45pm with the Varsity following at 7:15pm while the Freshman play in the auxiliary gym. Then on Friday, February 7th, the Eagles welcome the Burges Mustangs to "The Nest." The Freshman play at 4:30pm, the Junior Varsity tips at 6:00pm, and the Varsity closes the show at 7:30pm with all games taking place in the main gym.

Andress Explodes in Final 3 Quarters for 89-54 Opening Game Victory
The Texas class 4A #15 ranked Andress Eagles started slow, but exploded for 78 points in the final three quarters in their 89-54 opening night victory over Eastwood at "The Nest." The Eagles were spurred on by a burst in the final 52 seconds of the second quarter that saw a 28-25 lead grow to 37-25 at the half. The second half saw the Eagles score 52 points in route to their 35 point victory. The Eagles were lead offensively by junior Zaccheus Jackson's 21 points, 15 points from senior guard Jeffrey Long, and another 10 points from senior transfer Kylonte' Bizzell. Senior forward Isaiah Hemmitt (pictured left) anchored a tenacious defense and won the "Josh Beach #22" practice jersey for his 6 points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 5 deflections on the night.
